THE MOMENT I DECIDED TO START MY OWN BUSINESS
Updated: Nov 22, 2019
There’s a story…
The simple reason I got into the oils and also the not so simple reason I decided to begin a business with doTERRA. They kind of entwine and work together so you can't really get one without the other.
A couple of years ago I hit a crossroad in life and in business as I started truly looking into what I wanted and what my current situation was and wasn't giving me.
The reality was,
I had been working in my photography business for about 5 years, we’d just bought our first apartment, and Mich and I began speaking about starting a family. That conversation made me put a spotlight on what I was doing for a career and more importantly had me wondering if what I had created in my current business was going to support me and my family as I began to think about Motherhood.
Then I got sick. Nothing serious, just a bit like, I was unable to get off the couch, kinda sick. It was the first time I had ever taken time off in my business that wasn’t planned and I realised a couple of things;
1. No matter what I did [and by that point, I had tried everything,] I could never find any kind of consistency with my photography business. It was either really, really busy or dead quiet. 2. I realised that what I loved most, standing behind the camera and actually taking the photos and connecting with people in real life was only about 5% of what I actually did in business.
3. I realised that I was the only one showing up in my business and when I took time off from doing that, I was actually quite lonely. 4. I also realised that because I wanted to become a Mum, and this time was approaching, taking that time to be fully present as a Mum and having the ability to still get paid was not going to be achieved with what I was currently doing. 5. I craved a team, working with people. I was adamant that I didn’t want to do it alone anymore. 6. I also desired to start introducing more health and wellness and low-tox living into my life.
I started a business because I wanted more in life and I wanted to be in charge of my time and my freedom. I always craved the freedom lifestyle and at the very core of it all, deep down I knew I wanted to create something that gave me limitless freedom and I always knew that the 9-5, trading time for money was definitely NOT FOR ME. I thought my passion for photography would give me a business that supported this desire for freedom. For me, this was not the case.
Two other hard facts were very dominant,
1. Having your own business often does not equate a stable bank account and I was ready for this reality to change.
2. I knew I wanted to explore the health and wellness magic that I’d heard essential oils could give.
I’d been on a bit of a health journey and back in 2016 it looked a lot like detoxing the home and preparing my mind, body, and spirit to be ready to start a family.
I reached out to Tara Bliss and bought a Home Essentials Kit and then I went on to set up my monthly order, which doTERRA called - Loyalty Reward Program so that I could slowly begin to build a collection of essential oils while learning and studying all the ways they can support me.
And, what I got,
was a sense of empowerment, the more I used the oils in my everyday life, the more I learned all the ways I could use them the more empowered I felt because I started to become the healer in my own home. Now, I also knew and had a burning desire to begin a business with doTERRA and this was this reason I asked Tara to team me with Alice Nicholls of The Whole Daily. I’d been following her on Instagram for years and when she began selling doTERRA I just connected with her and her message. If you ever get the chance to meet her in real life, you’ll know exactly why! She’s very special human and I am so thankful to have the ability to work with her and now all the other amazing women in our team whom I would have never known if it wasn’t for doTERRA.
How did I know I wanted to start a doTERRA business?
I had been a customer in a couple of other network marketing businesses before, and when I looked into the design and structure of the business, it really resonated with me.
Probably because I had ALWAYS craved teamwork and team support - when you rise I rise.
And I knew that this kind of model would offer me and my family everything I had always wanted. - Freedom of time. - Pay while on holidays or even while sick. [This is something I took for granted when I worked for someone else.] - Connections with people. After being an entrepreneur for quite a few years by this point and still trading time for money, when you’re the only one showing up in your business, it’s can be so freakin hard and, frankly, quite lonely.
So here was a business model where I saw women I respected thriving in, where I felt deeply connected to the products and where I saw so much potential to experience all the things I was craving.
I’ve been working with this amazing team and with these divine oils and with this incredible company for two years now and this is what I know to be true;
The support network I have been placed in is beyond amazing. I’ve been supported more than I ever knew was possible and I’ve created connects with women who I would have never otherwise met. Women who want to very best for me and in supporting me do that, they earn the very best for themselves.
I have finally found the vessel that gives me the opportunity to truly make a difference. I can actually give back in a way I have always been searching for. DoTERRA makes it easy because of their unwavering ethics. With their co-impact sourcing model, every single time I buy an essential oil, I am making a difference. With the philanthropic work we uniquely get the opportunity to be a part of, sometimes it brings me to tears when I hear about the work we are contributing to in this world. It’s actually one of the number one reasons I decided to go all in with this company and this business.
The possibilities and the potential are limitless. That uncapped feeling is extremely empowering. If I can paint a little picture for you; over the past few months, now actually being a new Mum, I have taken some of that special quality time to just be with my daughter. No work. #gratefulAF and yet, I am still being supported with money flowing into my account.
I know with all of my soul that I am in the right place.
Abundance means many things and that is what abundance feels like for me. When you continue to get paid for all the hard work that you've done, no matter where you are or what life circumstances you are currently facing, that is what I had always desired and hoped to work towards.
The how is simple.
Find someone who works with doTERRA, connect with them and their message and simply open up a wholesale account and then, use your oils every day. Stay connected with this person and learn about all the ways you can use your oils around the home and with your family and friends.
The now is fun.
Now I'm studying a Diploma in Aromatherapy and educating and supporting my customers everyday. I use my essential oils and then share how and what I'm doing. It's the best! I am so thankful I followed my gut and pivoted when I knew I needed to. I am so grateful to have found a company and a team to grow with.
I feel like it's just the beginning...
